- About Hollister Ranch -

Hollister Ranch (HR) is a private ranch located about 35 miles north of Santa Barbara. It’s closest shopping area is in Buellton, 13 miles away. Just after Buellton is Solvang (16 miles) and Santa Ynez (21 miles), both part of the picturesque Santa Barbara Wine Country.

HR sits on 8.1 miles of pristine California coastline (See map for layout). Hollister Ranch is approximately 14,400 acres and 125 plus miles of roads on 8.5 miles of coastline. This area is made up of 136, 100+ acre parcels, 3 of which are owned by the Hollister Ranch Owners’ Association (HROA), and the remaining 133 owned by individuals. None of the parcels can be subdivided. Some parcels are owned by one owner, others are deeded to 3 or more owners. Prior to 1988, parcels could be divided into smaller interests, as little as 112.

With 24 hour gated security, owners must check in upon entering. Guests are permitted on HR with some restrictions. HR is a private owners’ association, and public access is not permitted. This improves the safety and privacy of the owners as well as helping to maintain the natural habitat of the coastal areas and ecology.

HR is an active cattle ranch

HR is an active cattle ranch and cattle can be found grazing on almost every parcel at some point during the year. Being zoned as an agricultural reserve, some property tax benefits are conferred to ownership, depending on factors such as structures and other improvements.

HR is well known as one of the best spots in Southern California for surfing. The intensity and frequency of offshore winds and topography creates ideal waves and surfing conditions. Even better, Hollister's pristine surfing environment is much less crowded than other surfing destinations in Southern California.

The HR community is made up of a diverse group of people with different backgrounds and interests. In common is the love of nature, open spaces, and tranquil surroundings. While everyone respects each other’s privacy, people are extremely friendly, helpful, and often enjoy hanging out. For some it’s a primary residence while many others make it a second home and escape from hectic city life.

The biggest event at HR is the annual hoedown. Hundreds of Ranch owners, their families and guests converge for BBQ, concert, games, and beach activities. It’s a big social gathering where everyone has the opportunity to mingle. People bring chairs, blankets, wine, and anything else they like. It’s always fun and entertaining.
